Heavy rail / Urban light rail

Climatic ageing

Evaluate the impact of weather on railway components.

Tests objectives

Perform climatic ageing tests on infrastructure and rolling stock components. Three types of tests:

  • Development
  • Approval (type tests)
  • Investigation (after technical malfunction)

Tests facilities

  • Climatic test chambers with relative humidity ranging from 20% to 98%
    – 14 m3: from -40 (±3 °C) to 125 (±5°C)
    – 1.5 m3: from -40 (±3 °C) to 125 (±5°C)
    – 1.5 m3: from -60 (±3 °C) to 160 (±5°C)
  • Salt mist test chamber (1.2 m3)
  • Spraying systems for Ingress Protection (IP) tests
  • Facilities dedicated to UV resistance testing of materials
